Goodnight Kiss MusicIf you saw the page I wrote in January on when they "Groove", you heard my appeal to writers to lock groove write"lay there", due to . (Mostly because I am sent a huge amount of Country, and Country demos often simple chording.)
Just to show you how the Universe teaches me, at the ASCAP yearly meeting I was talking with another "working member" about styles of music, and what we each do. (You know that typical annual meeting chat when you meet someone.)
Her name is Jane (honest), and she works mostly with young hip-hop/trip-hop rap writers. She was complaining because all she ever heard was groove... no original subjects, no great lyrics, no form or loveable style.... just groove, groove, groove.
You see??? We ALL tend to get
stuck. We just have to look in a "rounder" way, and go
through the same list of criteria as anyone wanting a GREAT work
must do.
Just as a note. The tapes I have been getting lately are all
fairly good. They are nicely produced, some have moments of
genius. However... I only sign what I LOVE. If your tape has been
listened to, and not signed, don't take it personally. It might
have been a wonderful song, but just one I could not place. (Or
it might have needed a re-write.) Or maybe, I just didn't love it.
At least you are sending and trying. Keep watching the calls
listed here, and send only your most targeted, special things as
called for. I am on your side!
